Data Collection

As part of the European HYMAR hybrid marine research project, TML has developed several new technologies that enable the installation and control of marine based electric propulsion systems.

Individual battery monitoring

Sensors to measure large electrical flows with very high accuracy, fuel flow measurement, battery block health sensors and overall power monitoring are some of the devices that are now available. All TML devices use a common bus format, allowing many devices to connect together very easily.

Battery condition and individual temperatures can be monitored, allow for more conditioned charging cycles, increased battery life, and early-warning alerts for cell failure.

A central controller takes all the available data and interfaces with various devices. These can include generators, battery chargers and electric drive motor controllers. Having each device on the data network means that overall system dynamics can be controlled in real time. User selectable profiles then allow the controller to intelligently switch between power sources to maximise efficiency and battery condition.

Wireless electrical display

A wireless display gives user control and display of all the available data, including the navigation information from the boat instrumentation.

The system is modular and flexible, allowing interfacing to sensors, motors and generators from many manufactures.
